We have only just begun our journey at AVA SOCIETY and while we are still so new to the market, we feel it’s incredibly important to acknowledge our social responsibilities as a brand and set guidelines from the very beginning to lead our team and suppliers into operating respectfully and admirably.

Before launching, our team got together to identify what values are important to us and what drives us to come to work each morning, and as a result we have established our commitments and responsibilities as a brand which span across five key areas:

BRANDING

Continuing to ensure we’re always an all-inclusive brand by solely using our customers and team to model our products as a way to empower everyday people of all races, body types, genders and ages. This is an absolute non-negotiable for us.

Partnering up with an under-represented charity each month to provide not only a financial donation but also a social donation by educating our team and customer base about the endlessly inspiring work they do for their communities. In coming months, we will be encouraging our customers to suggest charities for us to support so we can be sure to be donating to different charities that mean something to our customers who come from all walks of life.

COMPANY CULTURE

Continuing to provide employment opportunities to ensure a consistently high representation of marginalised communities including People Of Colour, LGBTQI and Indigenous Australians in our team.

Providing all our team with paid additional leave on top of their standard annual leave to be able to volunteer their services and time to support under-represented communities during work hours.

PRODUCT FORMULATION

Continuing to ensure when we’re testing and trialling new product formulations that we’re constantly evaluating performance across various skin pigments and types to always maintain a diversely accessible range.

Our range is completely paraben and sulphate free. This will never change as it’s vitally important for us to ensure our product formulas are completely natural and beneficial for your body.

ENVIRONMENT

We’re currently working on implementing a recycling program where customers can return their empty AVA SOCIETY glass bottles for us to 100% recycle and provide our customers with a discount for their involvement and contribution in allowing us to become an even more so sustainable brand. We aim to have this fully implemented by the end of 2020.

Our product formulas are and always will be Australian made, natural, vegan and cruelty-free and packaged in glass bottles to completely minimise the usage of plastic, guaranteeing we maintain a lighter footprint on our environment. We’re also in the process of transitioning the print on our packaging to use vegetable ink for a further environmental approach. We aim to also have this implemented by the end of 2020.

ACKNOWLEDGING OWNERSHIP OF THE LAND WE OPERATE ON

As a brand, we acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land in which AVA SOCIETY operates. The traditional Aboriginal Groups of the Marrickville, Sydney region (where the AVA SOCIETY office is based) are the Cadigal Wangal clans – the Eora people. We pay our respects to their Elders, Past, Present and Emerging.

We will continue to be a brand who consistently recognises our privilege of being able to pick and choose elements of Australian nature. We are committed to honouring Indigenous communities and Aboriginal ownership of the land we operate on and draw inspiration from through product formulations and our packaging.

AVA SOCIETY is by no means perfect, however, we are proud of the guidelines and criteria that we have set in place in which everybody involved in our brand – whether that be current and future team members, influencers, stockists, suppliers, etc will be required to adhere to. We understand and acknowledge that we as a brand, as well as society continues to evolve, it becomes vital that we continually add to these guidelines and therefore we have scheduled in monthly catch-ups to review our commitments and to ensure we’re on track with where we aim to be heading as a brand. We’re excited about this direction and would love nothing more than for you to also join us on this journey.
